BMW G650 Xchallenge: serious off-road adventure

I'll take mine on the rocks
The Xchallenge is an uncompromising offroad machine with long spring travel and not one gram of extra weight. The bodywork is made from flexible and fracture-proof plastic. There is a generous 270 mm (10.6 in) of suspension travel at both ends. The front end is handled by a USD fork with high torsional stiffness. The rear uses the BMW Motorrad Air Damping System (as used on the HP2 Enduro). This system is resistant to heat-induced fading and an air pump is provided to tune the ride height.

Picking a path Offroad, yes, but the Xchallenge is a fully legal and capable onroad bike, too. Top speed is over 100 mph, braking from the weight-saving Wave rotors is strong and fitted soft luggage is available. The fuel tank may seem small but the efficiency of this bike gives a cruising range of up to 250 km.

The G650 engine is a variant of the proven balance-shaft equipped single-cylinder F650 unit. Enhancements in the G engine make it even more responsive: lighter, faster-revving and more powerful. The optional 2-channel BMW Motorrad ABS system adds only 3.3 pounds of weight but adds immeasurably to rider safety and is switchable for extreme sporting needs.

The G-series bikes are built using the best available components and the Xchallenge is no exception: a strong upside-down fork with adjustable rebound and compression damping, Air Damping System fully adjustable rear shock, LED taillight, tapered aluminum handlebar and more.
