Upcoming Events and Stuff to Do

Gravel Road Ride Saturday 3 May

Join us for a few hours of fun and a little taste of Adventure Touring on your BMW dualsport bike. The ride leaves Wolf BMW promptly at 10:00 am. We can't even guess at the weather that day but no matter: we go rain or shine. We plan to make a loop north of the city where we know some of the scenic roads and unmaintained road allowances. If the water level is right, there may be one or two "official" stream crossings to ride through.

We will stick to strictly legal roads at least one full lane wide so anything from an F650GS to an R1200GS Adventure will be an excellent choice. In any case, it will be easy to detour around any really nasty bits so come on out wearing suitable gear (warm and waterproof will probably be best) and bring your sense of adventure.

BMW in the lead at Calgary

Canadian Thunder series

BMW rider Michael Taylor won the Number One plate for BMW, taking home the most points in an impressive showing in 2007 on a reliable, basically stock BMW R1200S.

For 2008, the excitement will continue. Paul Glenn and Michael Ferrera will be bike riding for BMW. They will be on the new HP2 Sport DOHC bike, based on the successful endurance racer campaigned by BMW in Europe this past season, starting with a class win at the Le Mans 24-hr race.

The 2008 Canadian Thunder series, in conjunction with the Parts Canada Superbike Championship:

22-25 May: Calabogie Motorsports Park,
26-29 June: Race City Motorsports Park, Calgary
17-20 July: Mosport Park - Double header race weekend and BMW Summerfest
07-10 August: Atlantic Motorsports Park Shubenacadie NS
28-31 August: Shannonville Motorsports Park - Series Finale

Wolf BMW Advanced Rider Training

2004 school photo There’s nothing quite like being good at what you’re doing to make it more fun, and practice and training is a good way to get there. At Wolf BMW, we have been offering rider training to our customers for many years. We rent a race track for our exclusive use for the day, provide instruction, lunch, and emergency medical personnel on standby. These are street-riding schools, designed to give the opportunity to develop riding skills and reflexes in a safe environment. There is plenty of track time for all and no pressure to ride above your limits - quite the opposite in fact. Equally important, the other riders on the track are also there to learn and have fun. Those who have attended an "open track day" may appreciate the distinction here: we ride in small groups guided by the instructors, working on specific skills and building speed as the day goes on and riders become more comfortable with the pace and their bikes. As a result, we avoid the hazards involved in sharing the track with people who may be riding over their heads.

Both dates this year are at Shannonville's famous Nelson circuit. Nelson has slow and fast corners including a double-apex and some mild banking. Like all the Shannonville layouts, the circuit is fun and safe with good visibility and abundant run-off.

Choose from Monday 2 June or Monday 6 October.

$250 includes classroom, plenty of track time, and a catered lunch. Pay before 31 April and get a $25 early-booking discount.

These schools are offered on a not-for-profit basis as a service to our customers (and for fun!), but other BMW riders are welcome if space is available.
