The BMW Sertao: offroad or everyday.

  Roosting
The Sertao is a variant of the single-cylinder G650GS dualsport bike. The Sertao is closer in spirit and equipment to the winners 1999 Granada-Dakar Rally and the 2000 Paris-Dakar-Cairo event; from which both models are descended.

Whereas the G650GS is mostly for urban use, back roads and light off-roading, the Sertao chassis is tuned for hard knocks of offroad use. There is a taughter suspension with more travel and tough wire-spoked wheels are fitted. There is a 21-inch wheel on the front to better handle obstacles and to fit a choice of more agressive tires.

Standard equipment includes a heavy duty remote-reservoir rear shock absorber, aluminum engine guard, hand protectors, and extended front mudguard.

With its large ground clearance and standard off-road protective guards, the Sertao is ready for seriously bad roads or challenging trails. The same torquey, smooth-running engine used in the G650GS gives excellent fuel economy and so a good range for exploring in remote areas.

BMw's lightweight, switchable ABS is an available option, adding to the utility of this bike as an all-road, all-weather machine for exploring, commuting and backroad pleasure riding. The Sertao is even competent for stretches of freeway rides, being unusually stable at speed for this type of motorcycle.

The bullet-proof G series has been all over the world. With the Sertao, the bloodline and the adventure will carry on.

As with its sibling the G650GS and indeed all BMW motorcycles, one of the great attractions of the Sertao is the full line of high-quality accessories available to customize the bike.
