Like the basic model R1200GS, the Adventure has many enhancements for 2008. Power has been increased and the engine has a wider powerband. Transmission
changes enhance traction, acceleration and gear shifting. Ergonomics are optimized in a number of ways.
The handlebars, for example, can now be installed in a position ideal for riding offroad while standing.
New Enduro ESA is a useful option for the Adventure. ESA Electronic Suspension Adjustment provides on-the-fly setting of shock absorber modes (Normal, Sport or Comfort settings of compression and rebound damping on both front and rear shocks. When stopped, the rider can adjust for load (solo, with luggage, or two-up) with just the push of a button. The Enduro ESA adds two modes for offroad, with spring adjustment at both front and rear. The more severe setting also increases the ride height of the bike by about 2 cm.
