The R1200GS Adventure - Explore the world near or far

  On pavement, for now....

The R1200GS Adventure is the ultimate evolution of a line of unstoppable bikes that has long been the choice of riders who want no limits on their choice of destination. Adventure riders have been to the four corners of the earth and back: the popular book and movie The Long Way Round chronicled the 20,000 mile adventure of Ewan MacGregor and Charley Boorman on their early R1150 models. Recently, Ewan and Charley rode 15,000 miles from the northern tip of Scotland to Capetown, South Africa on R1200GS Adventures in their own latest adventure, The Long Way Down. The Adventure is based on the R1200GS and optimized for the long- or short-distance globetrotter. Fuel range is greater, weather protection is enhanced for the nastiest conditions, supension travel is increased, a heavy-duty electrical system is used, and there is more adjustability of the riding position.

Plan YOUR adventure now. Roads not required!

Stand on the pegs and twist the throttle Like its root model the R1200GS, the Adventure's big Boxer engine is equipped with high-performance cylinder heads proven in World Endurance Championship roadracing by the BMW HP2 Sport. Featuring dual overhead camshafts and four radial valves per side, they increase the power output, torque, and usable rev range. A six-speed close-ratio gearbox features all helical gears and a low-friction shifter mechanism for smooth shifts. The exhaust system features an electronically-controlled bypass valve for quiet stealth at small throttle openings and a throaty roar when riding hard.

New Enduro ESA is a useful option for the Adventure. ESA Electronic Suspension Adjustment provides on-the-fly setting of shock absorber modes (Normal, Sport or Comfort settings of compression and rebound damping on both front and rear shocks. When stopped, the rider can adjust for load (solo, with luggage, or two-up) with just the push of a button. The Enduro ESA adds two modes for offroad, with spring adjustment at both front and rear. The more severe setting also increases the ride height of the bike by about 2 cm.

Nowhere to plug in my laptop. Good.

Also included are a 12-volt accessory socket, hazard warning flashers, and self-cancelling turn signals. A standard anti-theft system uses a "smart" ignition key which cannot be copied and makes hotwiring impossible. Optional Stability Control (available with ABS) excessive wheelspin and consequent loss of stability. Tire pressure monitoring, also available, will warn of a flat tire due to a puncture before the tire deflates to a dangerous level.
Major original equipment options are grouped into these packages: Available separately or along with any of the packages: Durable aluminum luggage and a wide range of touring accessories are available:
